This is life.
As much as I bitch and moan about no water, no electricity,
and living in a mud hut losing its charm… it is all worth it for days like
today.
Breakfast
Yoga
Tending the cows
Fresh kill steak for lunch from the neighbor-eaten in the
field with the family
Short hike to pick wildflowers alone
Editing my VALE text book/manual
Second yoga session
Meeting with summer school teachers
Smelling my potato leek soup simmer for the whole family
Tea and bread with Hirma
Getting Hirma to hire Washington (Roxana’s brother) to help
paint the primary school
Knock on the door from a daughter to get help for her
father’s medical issue
And now reading the book The Birth House to candle light
with the dog curled by my side listening to the romantic harmonies of the milk
carton kids.
I don’t feel lonely today, for the first time in a long
time. I have tapped back in to the optimistic woman who joined the Peace Corps.
I wish I could share how today’s simplicity and belonging has brought me joy
with everyone I love and miss.
