1 Febrero 2012

I think I have explained that my method of weeding is only pulling the things that I know, with 100% certainty, are not vegetables. That generally means things that burn me, stab me, or are clovers.
These little ****ers are my favorite to hate:

In quechua they are called “alco quishka” directly translated would be “dog thorns” but I would more accurately translate as “spiky bitches”.
They tend to be scattered among what Gray calles, ‘spiny nettles’ (sp?). I have no idea what their American English name would be, so we will go with that henceforth. These ‘spiny nettles’ don’t hurt at all if you brush up against them with a certain grace. But, if you are going in to pull them out of the ground, they somehow know it, and with tiny little poisoned spikes burn the shit out of you for about 20 minutes.
This problem is solved with garden gloves, thanks mom, but the “spiky bitch” problem is not so simple. They go right through my rubber gloves. Once it actually drew blood and I continued destroying the damned plant while the finger of my glove filled with fluid.

As you can imagine, the weeding process is slow, to say the least. This is what I started with two days ago:

hopefully I will get the before and after pictures up in the next few days. I am darn proud of this little green patch.
