Many of you also know that I was raised as a boycotter. To vote with my dollar, which is amazingly powerful in this world. For example, I will not shop at Walmart, I will not wear clothing articles not made in the country where I am living, and I have spats here and there where i don't go to certain restaurants because I know they purchase a certain fruit or bean or whatever from farms that don't pay their workers fair wages, etc. It is a part of me and always will be.
Others of you have no idea I do these things because this is the first time I have advertised this publicly. So unless you have gone clothing shopping with me and have seen me checking the tags on every article, you probably had no idea what a closet anti-capitalistic freak I am.
that said, this is one of the best podcasts I have ever listened to in my life. Especially because it opens with such a fantastic story-teller and concludes with research and follow-up facts. you walk away from this radio episode feeling furious, confused, betrayed, appreciative, and enlightened. If you are anything like me and Gray, it is one of those shows where you have to pause it sporadically to discuss and debate with whom you are listening.
I highly recommend listening to it in its entirety...
Of course, I don't believe we, the consumer, can blame Apple completely. If we want them to hire more people to check the facilities which manufacture our products, we have to do two things: Demand it., And pay a little more. But, as the Western Consumer, we are more interested in paying the lowest price for the best product.
You have all the control. You vote with your all-powerful dollar.
or, as my mother so wisely pointed out... apply could just decide not to have such a huge ($15.7 Billion) revenue and hire more workers from the US to oversee that the workers in their factories are paid and treated fairly. Or, god forbid, keep their factories here in the US.
