Upon returning from Arequipa City I landed in Madrigal still running. I delivered a package from Hirma’s husband to her, and as soon as my face became seen in the community requests started coming in. Exhausted, but happy, I ran around helping neighbors carry food buckets, lending my belongings, and giving out medication. As this is the middle of winter, everyone is sick and therefore a little weak and tired. Every child has a runny nose, every mother has a cough, every father is over-drinking in an attempt to stay warm. As the schools are about to step into a “spring break”- two week vacation from classes, I am shifting my attention to being as helpful as possible with the daily labor, and eating up all the beauty in the canyon I can find.
Last weekend I camped-out aside the natural volcanic hot springs of Corporaque. Hours simmering under the stars and full moon healed my feet and legs from the day’s hike there and prepared me for the hike up the canyon to a small spring to camp-out the following evening. As I packed as lightly as possible and camera-less, if you want to see the spectacular view, you will need to find a way to bring your eyes here for me to show you…
