4 Mayo 2011

I spent the past few days pushing my butt a little to prepare the teacher workshop for this week. When I arrived at the high school today the teachers had forgotten the program was scheduled for today and were occupied preparing for other things. I ended up meeting with the principal for a while. He seemed a little embarrassed and was hypersensitive to the fact that I might get upset. While I was disappointed in the lack of responsibility from the teachers, I wasn’t mad at them. In fact them showing up for the past few weeks on time was more than I anticipated. But talking to Gregorio about his concerns about his school was great.
To be honest, ultimately, I did leave the school a little disheartened. Not for me, but for the fact that I am spoon-feeding them and if the teachers don’t show an improvement, how can we ever expect the kids to? Teachers set standards, students live up to them.

But, those feelings were all buried when I arrived for the workshop in the afternoon at the primary school. All the teachers were there and ready and extremely interactive and curious. The goal of this meeting was to teach the teachers activities and games they can use the classroom to make learning more interactive. So all we did was play games based on what they had learned the weeks prior, and they really did very well. The primary school teachers are such a great group. I am so proud and appreciative of them.
