I had a dream a couple nights ago about home. Sarah-Rulon-Miller was with me the whole time. I picked her up at her house and brought her to my house for a huge meal with my friends. all my friends were there. I could see all of their faces around the table. Then my roommate and I got into a fight and I explicitly remember me saying, "You don't live here anymore"
Funny, I am the one that moved out. I miss home today.

How dearly it is that kids all over this country long to be touched. I noticed how much the children seem to adore the ability to hold volunteers hands or hang on our legs. My attention was brught to the fact that I rarely see even the most loving parents holding their child for any reason other than functionality or convenience.
How common is this in The States?

SOS Kinderdarf International
Austrian NGO providing housing for orfans in 222 locations all over the world.
+ great living situation: it is a community of houses. 10 kids per house with one mother. Mothers in training visit the house as aunts. Kids receive an education in local schools and begin living on their own at 18, and they are free to move out of the community and wherever they want whenever they are ready.
- This NGO uses the same model all over the world for their villages. Make director and organizational staff. Mothers in the houses raising youth.
They also speak freely and openly about the kids as orphans and where they came from in the presence of the children. This is used as a fundraising method as far as I could preceive.

As I continue training I am quickly realizing that everything that has brought me to thise point in my life is contributing to how I serve this community.
Now, I call on the entire family and community that raiesd me. very opportunity I receives I attempt to replicate for the children here.

Everything. I am using it all now.
I am setting an unreachable goal for myself. I want to build a curriculum that The Peace Corps can use to hand out to it's Youth Development Volunteers that they can use as a spring board in their neighborhoods.

I have never so closely related to Charlie and the chocolate factory as I do now. I nibble on one chocolate bar daily and make it last the week. Each bite is heavenly.
Sublime- Peruvian chocolate- s/. 1= 1/3 of my daily allowance (.30 cents)
Milky Way- American Mars Inc- s/. 3.80 = 1 ¼ my daily allowance (buck fifty)
My breakfastt hismorning had a McDonald's flare
tostada (cryptic for stale bread)
ham (looks more like a cross between balogna and spam)
queso fresco (skim from the top of milk pressed)
t'was yummy none the less
breakfast is probably my favorite meal of the day. Delicious coffee is usually paired with a tostada and palta (freshly sliced avocado). or bread from the local bakery with palta or jelly.

I can only hope that my weekly financial contribution to the family is what permitted them to buy a stove with a functioning oven today.

Trying to emulsify into this community and culture I have felt a loss of a sense of self and therefore have needed to do some soul searching.
it is funny how one needs to re explore how they want to present themselves to every new community they move into. what dress and language is most representative of how they want to be perceived? last week I started to feel a little lost. With only a week's worth of clothing and feeling like I was "putting on a show" to be what I thought a PC volunteer was suppose to be, i lost a bit of my goofy, individualistic self.
well, ladies and gentlemen, having come to know this culture a little better and how my actions, dress, and language will be perceived, I have found her.
under some feathers and leather here she is :-)
